can't commit changes

Upon trying to commit my changes back to the repository, I'm getting the
error:

Can't open .././..svn-base.tmp

Not sure what other types of information might help in uncovering what
the problem might be. We're using windows xp. Anyone know what the
problem could be? Thanks.

It helps if you show us the actual commit you attempted (svn co <WHAT>).

I do know that on Windows, I have observed issues with attempting to
go up too many parent directories; anything farther than 2 levels
(../..) doesn't seem to work.
