or just add it from the packages in the distro.
if it's an rpm distro then
rpmi apache.pachage.name
at the console. ( if you installed from cdrom this will install the
apache that comes with your distro.)
you can also use the graphic interface and graphic based apps that will
probably make it a lot easier.
try typing:
startx
you will get the defaulted graphic interface from runlevel 3 ( konsole )
or init 5 to switch to graphic mode and have a choice of interfaces.
it is usually easier to use the distro specific packages as the distro's
have tweaked it to work with thier software.

apache mirror is:
http://apache.secsup.org/dist/httph/httpd-2.0.43.tar.gz
for the sources, you will have to compile this download as opposed to
installing a package.

RE: [users@httpd] ncftp to apache
Posted by Jonathan Villa <ap...@ftbwebsolutions.com>.
Originally I installed from the cd, however I wanted a newer version and
due to my finite and novice knowledge of linux, I was unable to
uninstall, I tried rpm -evv nodeps httpd | more
But could not uninstall.
As far as the GUI, I didn't install it. I want to learn the command
line for misc. reasons.
