Forgot to change Cluster ID in Jackrabbit 2 months back, now what?

We have two jackrabbit nodes that have been running with clustering for a
couple months. 

After users complained of lack of consistency between nodes... we found out
that the cluster ID's were not unique between the two nodes. 

Now what do we do? Can we simply change the cluster ID's to be unique and
restart? Do we need to clear the workspace? Does this leave the database
corrupted?
