NOT Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.0.0-Dev – English UI /
German locale [AOO400m1(Build:9700) - Rev. 1484333 Rev.1483903 (2013-05-20)]"
on WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile. I have Java 1.7 JRE
enabled on PC, but disabled in AOO. I will do a second test with JRE disabled
on PC
@Ariel Constenla-Haile:
I am doubtful that jimarona's problem is "missing JRE" related. I would have
expected as missing JRE problems:
a) If reaction on missing JRE is intended: greyed "New" radio button and text
b) If no foresighted missing Java detection is active, Crash, Hang, or a
message.
But not simply a missing Selection
May be that only was a slip for a particular build?

Setting back to DEFECT and UNCONFIRMED. needmoreinfo is already set.

Please check the following:
- if your Windows is 64 bit, you need a JRE 32 bit, because OpenOffice is a 32
bit application
- if you have a 32 bit JRE, and the bug still happens, then you might be facing
this known bug, as described in the release notes:
http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues
"Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended
configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings
about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package."
The solution is to download and install
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/B/C/5BC5DBB3-652D-4DCE-B14A-475AB85EEF6E/vcredist_x86.exe

--- Comment #3 from Ariel Constenla-Haile <ar...@apache.org> ---
The problem here seems to be that the user does not have a Java Runtime
Environment installed and properly configured in the Options dialog.
The "Create a new database" radio button is only visible when Java is enabled,
because new databases are created as embedded databases using the Java-based
HSQLDB engine.
@jimarona: do you have a Java Runtime Environment installed? If so, please
check the "Options" dialog from the menu "Tools" - "Options..."; on the
"Options" dialog select "OpenOffice.org" - "Java", check "Use a Java runtime
environment", and restart OpenOffice, including the system tray quick starter.
After that, if Java is working fine with OpenOffice, you should see the radio
button to create a new database. If you don't see it, it's likely that java is
not working, check for example if the Wizards work (File - Wizards - Letter,
for example).
