cant send mail out

When I telnet localhost 25 the terminal window freezes!

So far, I have modified only two entries in my conf.xml file

password:"root" <server>current ip</server> ************* And I have added
users (a7khan, amits) by using the administrator account through telnet

telnet localhost 4555 ************* Now, I get stuck when I try to compose
a message,

telnet localhost 25 ************

The kit that I got from my ISP specifies two DNS numbers. Now, if I put
these two DNS numbers in the conf.xml file. I still get the same problem.

Can I do the following:

email using one user account to other...so far I have registered two user
accounts..

why doesnt anything show up when I type "telnet localhost 25"
