jsp not running
I just installed tomcat on win98, with apache & i am able to run servlet
examples but when i try to run jsp examples then it gives the Error:500.
Kindly help me out.
Moreover i am also not able to call a servlet using .shtml file.
i have placed .shtml file in "jakarta-tomcat/webapps" directory, so when i
type http://localhost:8080/abc.shtml, in my browser then the .shtml file runs
but it doesnt calls the servlet which is specified inside .shtml file.
Kindly advise me on the matter.
Thanks a lot in advance.

1) I would suggest you install things in steps:
a) make sure Tomcat is running (and that your app runs fine under Tomcat)
b) Make Apache work with Tomcat.
If you can't execute JSP's is likely you don't have set your environment
properly (i.e. TOMCAT_HOME, JAVA_HOME, CLASSPATH, PATH variables). Check
that you have them (use the command set in a DOS windows). Make sure you
have downloaded and installed JDK 1.3.
2) Tomcat does no support shtml pages (SSI). Several reponses have been
posted to this list regarding that issue. You may think of replacing shtml
pages by JSP pages. It will require some re-work on your servlets.
For example, you may convert them in plain classes (not subclasses of
HttpServlet) but still receiving the request and response as parameters. You
may consider passing "out" (the JspWriter outputstream) as a parameter, as
it is not exactly a PrintWriter.
As a general recommendation you should include in your messages the specific
versions of Apache and Tomcat you area using. Also, try to be a bit more
specific about the error that Tomcat is producing.
Hope it helps.
