Slide Server memory Usage and Shutdown

Hi,

while toying with Slide, I noticed a few things:

When the slide application has been installed in Tomcat, Tomcat no
longer shuts down when running bin/catalina.sh stop

Environment:
Fedora Core 1 (Linux 2.4.22-1.2199.nptl)
$ java -version
java version "1.4.2_04"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)
Tomcat 5.0.25 and Slide 2.1b1 (binary download from apache.org)

As database for the J2EE store, I used PostgreSQL as supplied by Fedora
Core (7.3.4) and the JDBC3 driver from jdbc.postgresql.org

Shutting down leads to the HTTP service being unavailable (port 8080
gives "Connection refused") but the java process still runs:

$ ps uaxw | grep java
henning 9937 6.7 7.2 711652 37460 pts/0 S 17:20 0:09 /usr/lib/jvm/java/bin/java -Xmx512m -Djava.security.auth.login.config=/mnt/disk0/home/henning/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.25/conf/jaas.config -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/mnt/disk0/home/henning/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.25/common/endorsed -classpath /usr/lib/jvm/java/lib/tools.ja

I have to explicitly kill it for shutdown.

Another thing is the memory footprint. For my tests I tried the file and
the J2EE store.

The file store results in a moderate memory footprint (I stored and
retrieved a ~10 MBytes file) of about 40 MBytes for the server.

Using the J2EE store, the server needs a _lot_ more memory:

For the same file, the java process running the Tomcat and Slide server
grew pu to ~ 350 MBytes (10 times the memory footprint of the text store
test), making my notebook unusable while uploading the file.

Is there a memory leak with the J2EE store or does it really need that
much memory?

	Regards
		Henning
