[jira] [Created] (QPID-4239) Qpid-Tool: Check whether server is already running

Holger Caesar created QPID-4239:
-----------------------------------

             Summary: Qpid-Tool: Check whether server is already running
                 Key: QPID-4239
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/QPID-4239
             Project: Qpid
          Issue Type: Wish
          Components: C++ Broker
    Affects Versions: 0.14
            Reporter: Holger Caesar
            Priority: Minor

I am wondering whether the behavior of qpid-tool is supposed to be the following:
The tool will start up ("Management Tool for QPID\nqpid:"), regardless of whether a broker is running or not. It is only upon input of a command (such as "list"), that I can see the actual difference - either there are objects in the broker or not.
I think it would be much better to check for connection at startup. Otherwise users type in "list" 10 times and wonder why they don't get a result.
