[users@httpd] Invalid argument: Failed to acquire global mutex lock

I am running Apache 2.0.51. Recently, I added a Location directive, and bounced Apache, but received the following errors in the error_log:

[Wed Jun 07 18:03:54 2006] [warn] pid file /global/camin-http/apache/httpd.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run?

[Wed Jun 07 18:23:40 2006] [warn] (22)Invalid argument: Failed to acquire global mutex lock
[Wed Jun 07 18:23:40 2006] [warn] (22)Invalid argument: Failed to release global mutex lock

The unclean shutdown message was probably caused by a process monitor that attempted to restart Apache after I stopped it.
In researching this, I've found plenty of references to the mutex locking error, but nothing including the 'Invalid argument'. Has anyone run across this?

Thanks for your help,
Bruce
