location of Alexis resort

Question on the Alexis Park hotel where the ApacheCon
is being held: is it within walking distance of the
Strip? The map is somewhat vague on this issue.
Also, are there any restaurants or places to buy food
within walking distance, or is one pretty much
confined to the hotel?

Thanks,
Glen

HI

Also, remember there is now a monorail that runs down the back side of
the strip to Hiltons not sure of the full route we will see if we can
get some info to link up to the site. Anyway it stops all along the
way and makes it all much easier to get around. And I think you can
get a day pass or some such thing.

The Hard-Rock Hotel (across the street) offers a free
shuttle to the strip.

You can walk it, but it's not a great walk. You are better off
splitting a cab with some other attendees.

People have already talked about food nearby the hotel, but the
standard set up in Vegas is for each hotel to have about 5-7 different
restaurants of varying price and cuisine. (The Alexis Park is actually
an exception to this rule.) With 10+ hotels on the strip, that means
there are lots of places to go.

I would not say the food is a great value, but you can eat cheap in
Vegas if you stick to buffets, noodle bars, and the like. You can also
eat high end if, say, your company is paying. :)

Yes it is a 10-15 minute walk to the strip; if you hate walking - there is
a free shuttle from the Hard Rock Hotel/Caffee which is across the road
from Alexis.

Its a definitely walkable to the strip, I'd guess its just over a mile
(I suppose it depends on your definition of walkable). The hotel is
right across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel, which has a few good
places to eat. The Hard Rock also has a shuttle to the strip (or so I
have been told, I've never taken it myself) or you can take a cab to the
strip, which is also fairly cheap.

You can walk, it's about 10 minutes IIRC to get to the Aladdin/Bellagio
crossroad.

You get:

1. a burger restaurant nearby;

2. a safeway for lunch sandwiches;

3. the hard rock cafe' restaurants (nothing fancy);

4. a good (and expensive!) steak house not too far away.

(and possibly others, this is only where I've been myself)

Other than that, IMO Vegas food sucks anyway...

Hi

I spoke to the folks in las vegas about monorail. they are hoping to
be back on line in two weeks so we may be ok. I am on a list to be
notified as it gets sorted out so you will hear the up dates. One end
of the line is at the MGM which is about 2 blocks down the road from
us so it is pretty useful if it is working. And $25US for a 3 day
pass. 8AM to 2AM daily.

Hello,

When I was in Las Vegas last May, they where still testing the monorail
()without passengers), and what they told me, it was not expected to start
service before the end of this year.

Not to burst anyone's excitement, but not does the monorail not really
help you get between the Alexis Park and the strip, but it's
apparently broken and not running:

http://www.lvmonorail.com/

But I do enjoy riding monorails. Hopefully, they can fix it in time
for ApacheCon.

Alexis and the strip...

Hello Glen,

a hard-rock hotel and a burger house and some other restaurant i don't
remember are in walking distance for anybody (below 3mins). The strip
is somewhat away. Maybe typical US citizens would highly recomment a
cab. However we made it through several hotels on the strip. It took us
less than 1/2 hour walking there and i really am not able to remember
how much time it took to come back to the hotel in the morning. Hope
that helps :-)
