Re: Account for Apache Stratos AMI in AWS Marketplace

Lakmal,

Pinging you on this to put this on top of your threads. :)

So how do we figure out whether we can have an AWS Marketplace account for
Apache Stratos AMI?

If we cannot, is using WSO2 AWS Marketplace account an option?

Thanks!
Dmitry

Akila's blog post is really nice. If Akila would be happy to give us

just posting a link to it?

Re: Account for Apache Stratos AMI in AWS Marketplace

Hi,

I have created the EC2 demo AMI with PHP, MySQL and Tomcat cartridges.
This demo AMI will make it very easy for users to get started with
Stratos.

@Imesh: Thanks for the info, I've used 4.0.0 release packs as you have
suggested.

@Isuru: The script is not mandatory to spin an instance. A user can
manually type in user data parameters when launching the instance from
EC2 management console.

Stratos demo AMI ID - ami-0cf9a75e (publicly visible)
AMI Name - Apache Stratos 4.0.0 Demo

I have written this blog post [1] to help users walk through the steps
to deploy Stratos using the demo AMI.

I would like to highlight that I have made some changes to our Puppet
scripts when creating the demo AMI to address the following issues;
1. Allow remote access to MySQL cartridge
2. Fix LB issue when accessing in HTTPS protocol
3. Enable HTTPS for PHP cartridge

Thanks.

It should be 4.0.0, not RC4:

+1 for generating user-data. This is a usability improvement. The initial
impression that I got was that this script is mandatory to spin an instance
from the AMI, which IMHO is wrong. The user should be able to spin a
Stratos instance without it.

Re: Account for Apache Stratos AMI in AWS Marketplace

Posted by Akila Ravihansa Perera <ra...@wso2.com>.
Hi Isuru,

Yes, we can use user-data for this. But it would be easier to have a script
to generate this user-data rather than having to type all those parameters.
WDYT?

As I understand, users should be able to simply create an instance out of
the AMI, without using a script. In this case, we can use the user data
section that is available when spinning up an instance, to get the relevant
information. WDYT?

Re: Account for Apache Stratos AMI in AWS Marketplace

Posted by Akila Ravihansa Perera <ra...@wso2.com>.
Hi,

I would like to take on this task. I'll use Apache Stratos 4.0.0 RC4
release to create the demo AMI. Basically this AMI will contain the Stratos
release packs and a startup script that will get user parameters from the
payload (using EC2 meta-data API call) then deploy Stratos single JVM
(stand-alone) + ActiveMQ. Also it will deploy demo cartridges (MySQL,
Tomcat, Ruby, PHP).

We can create a demo script (boot.sh) to get user parameters (EC2
credentials, instance type, etc) and then send an API call to launch an
instance of the demo AMI with the payload.

Hope that covers everything that needs to be done.

Thanks.

Dmitry

Re: Account for Apache Stratos AMI in AWS Marketplace

Posted by Dmitry Sotnikov <dm...@wso2.com>.

we publish in public, it seems it not showing who as publish.

I wonder is cloud-stack did this kind of thing. @Chip if so, may be you can
shed some light on this.
