Eclipse -> Preferences -> Maven -> Lifecycle Mappings
Change mapping file location: /home/user/calcite/lifecycle-mapping-metadata.xml

File -> import -> Maven -> Existing Maven Projects
browse: /home/user/calcite

Follow instructions, as they show up.
Installs new maven plugins (build-helper-maven-plugin:1.9:add-resource,build-helper-maven-plugin:1.9:add-test-resource,maven-checkstyle-plugin:2.12.1:check)
