[jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-665) Consider custom license authored by MathWorks for inclusion of MATLAB MEX artifacts in Apache Arrow releases

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-665?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17823311#comment-17823311 ]

Kevin Gurney commented on LEGAL-665:
------------------------------------

Hi All,

After further discussion with our colleagues at MathWorks, we have decided that we could license the MEX binaries and ALL other contents included within the MLTBX files distrusted via the ASF release infrastructure under the standard Apache V2 license.

Are there any questions or concerns about this approach?

If there are no flags, then we will continue our efforts to integrate with the Apache Arrow release processes via https://github.com/apache/arrow/pull/38660.

We sincerely appreciate the community's patience and support on this.

Best Regards,

Kevin Gurney

> Hi All,
>
> I am an employee at [MathWorks|https://www.mathworks.com/] and a [Committer on the Apache Arrow|https://arrow.apache.org/committers/] project.
> Per the following mailing list thread in the [Apache Arrow|https://arrow.apache.org/] project:
> we are seeking approval to treat the following proposed license (authored by MathWorks) as Category B under the ASF 3rd Party License Policy:
> We believe this license meets the [Appropriately Labelled Condition|https://www.apache.org/legal/resolved.html#appropriately-labelled-condition] and the [Binary-Only Inclusion Condition|https://www.apache.org/legal/resolved.html#binary-only-inclusion-condition] as described in the [Category B section|https://www.apache.org/legal/resolved.html#category-b] of the ASF 3rd Party License Policy.
> Category B classification of this license will enable us to distribute the [MATLAB bindings to the Apache Arrow format|https://github.com/apache/arrow/tree/main/matlab] via official ASF release processes.
>
> Please let us know if you have any questions or require any additional information.
>
> Thank you for your consideration,
> Kevin Gurney
