Cocoon2-alpha0 & servlet 2.2
Hello,
I tried to compile the "Cocoon2-alpha0" branche, but it failed. I think it's
because I'm using jsdk2.2 (servlet 2.2 api), can anybody confirm this? I got
errors like the following:
class org.apache.cocoon.servlet.CocoonServletRequest must be declared
abstract. It does not define java.util.Enumeration getLocales() from
interface javax.servlet.ServletRequest.
I looked it up and the getLocales() method is added to the servlet 2.2 API.
There are more methods like this that are not present in Cocoon2-alpha0
sources.

I really don't care, because I'll never use something more than Servlet
2.0 :)
I'm kidding, of course... It's good for me, also because I think that
Cocoon 2.0 will take more time to get out than Tomcat (FINAL)... I hope
:)

OK, we have already gone down this road *many* times. How about this:
(1) Until Tomcat is feature-rich as JServ (and therefore officially
replaces JServ) we include a samples/servlet2.2 directory. This
directory has the 2.2 API CocoonServletRequest and CocoonServletResponse
source in it. That way if anyone want to use 2.2, they can easily copy
these into their source tree and compile them instead of the other 2.0
versions. This takes care of both camps, but defaults to the lowest
common denominator, which is JServ (and still should be IMHO).
(2) Once we see Tomcat replace JServ (I'm gonna guess around 3.5, to be
honest - maybe 2 months?), we move what is in samples/servlet2.2 into
the main branch, and ditch the older source as well as the servlet2.2
directory.
What do you think?

Geeee :) Really dangerously...

Oh yes... The cofigration down there is not valid... It's just to show
how it should be done (it's quite hard to get it from the sources!)

Thanks .. it seems to be roughly faster than cocoon 1x, i believe
because in most of the cases the response is out while I'm still parsing
the file :), but I never compared the two ...

If anybody likes to live dangerously, I've included two diff's for getting
the source to compile with jsdk2.2......One for CocoonServletRequest and one
for CocoonServletResponse.
I also included a diff for configuration.xml. Because you (Pier) removed the
Xerces-serializers but didn't change the configuration.xml.....I don't know
if I changed it the right way.....but with this configuration I could access
the CocoonServlet using Tomcat. I did't had the time to play with it, but I
got it up and running....It looks very promising!!!! Great job, Pier 8-)

Correct... It is a 2.0 servlet (Not even 2.1).
I don't want to run in trouble with other possible bugs while writing
the first implementation, so I'm using JServ and servlet 2.0.
