a "sed" Extension function for Xalan?

Hi

I was just reading through the Xalan Doc at
http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/extensionslib.html and it said that this
would be the place to write if I had a any ideas and/or contributions I
would like to make. . .

So here goes,
I was thinking it would be a pretty useful to have a function that would
be like "sed" is with Unix. . .

For this function, you would specify an xpath and then a sed command (eg
a substitution with:
s/regular_expression/replacement/flags). Then the content of the node
refered to by the xpath would be processed according to the sed command
rules, the result would then be returned as a node. . .

What do you think?

Cheers,
-Steffen
