[jira] [Created] (FLEX-33187) Procedure for using a randomly selected Apache mirror to download Apache Flex binaries

Erik de Bruin created FLEX-33187:
------------------------------------

Summary: Procedure for using a randomly selected Apache mirror to download Apache Flex binaries
                 Key: FLEX-33187
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-33187
             Project: Apache Flex
          Issue Type: Task
            Reporter: Erik de Bruin
            Assignee: Bertrand Delacretaz
            Priority: Blocker

This task describes the procedure for using a randomly selected Apache mirror to download Apache Flex binaries.

When the application needs to download a binary from the Apache Flex project, it makes makes a request to the 'single mirror url' CGI that lives in the root of the project site. This CGI returns the URL of a randomly selected Apache mirror, located near the user's geographical location. The CGI is a simple wrapper around the standard mirror selection functionality provided by apache.org. Both the Install Apache Flex application and the badge utility that goes with it use this functionality, making sure that binaries are (almost) never downloaded directly from apache.org servers.
