Those that voted, read this and give your opinion.
Any mentors willing to read this and answer by Sunday? I would like to
get this discussed quickly before I commit anything on the site.
I just think this might have slipped through the cracks, interesting thought.

With Apache, are you limited to using their mailing lists?
I'm sure Adobe would allow us to leverage their Forums, which allow people to follow the conversations and post without being subscribed.

I generally think it is a bad idea to force logo designers to subscribe to this mailing list to submit entries. Is there a way to post to the list w/o being subscribed?

From a PR Perspective, everyone is busy on Monday morning, recovering from their weekend haze. Post on Tuesday if you want to get noticed.

I don't really agree with Randy! Open Source is crowd or community
collaboration initiative. Open source evolves through community and the
contribution involved. Here nobody is dictating terms. You are at peace to
involve and contribute. Open source demands involvement and contribution
from the community (You mentioned it as community). You may be best logo or
graphic designer in the world unless you won't share your designs nobody is
demanding you. Hence please understand the histrionics of open source and
please be involved.

Of course you are! Everybody hates it when technology helps enable
competition to the stuff you do, thus driving down rates, and profits.
Please tell us how using a design contest site is any different than
not using a design contest site? We are, in fact, discussing a design
contest.

As a professional designer I am ethically opposed to sites like this for
the purpose of crowd sourcing graphic design. If you go this direction you
will find that designers like me will not participate for this very reason.
And these are the people you need involved. If you go down this road you
will tarnish Apache Flex among the design community. I can't state this
strongly enough. In this community we have ample supply of excellent
graphic design expertise who are stoked to contribute.

Another option, which is being used more widely lately, is to use twitter.
If Bertrand secured @ApacheFlex, we should have contest entrants summit a
tweet to that account.

I agree and you know I didn't even think about the fact they have to
subscribe, that is adding a barrier for sure. Honestly, I don't have
an answer for this in my head.
We could agree on a couple people that have public emails anyway and
the logo creators could contact us through email and then we would
post on the list there information. Then I would transfer that to the
site with other submissions.

Hi Carlos,
Yeah I agree so what you are suggesting is the PR end, I was talking
about the landing page. I'm really thinking this doesn't matter, it
needs to be on the website regardless and logo designers need to
submit there work via the list any way. And those designs will be
updated daily based on posts to this list.
The central landing off exactly whats going on with who, rebranding.html.
I was thinking about Monday morning putting the contest up. I was
agreed 1 week from the day the contest is posted on the website.
Any objections?

I think if we want to get some buzz out there and captivate some
professional logo maker's attention to get its vision and proposals about
Apache Flex, we should get accesibles the contest to the people who work
all day in this subjects. So, maybe to post the contest in some of the
communities that are focused on design logos and graphics could bring to
the board some interesting logos and icons to show and select.
As well, we should promote this contest through all mediums (blogs,
twitter, facebook, ...) and give a startin day and a end day.
Makes this sense?

Thanks Bertrand! I will do that when the contest starts and the final

For now, the draft document is on the front page of the website.

You can put an announcement on the front page but I think it's better
to have a specific URL for the contest page, suggest
http://incubator.apache.org/flex/logo-contest.html
The left navigation is defined in
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/flex/site/trunk/templates/leftnav.mdtext
if you want to add a link there.

you could publish the contest page at http://incubator.apache.org/flex
with a big DRAFT - CONTEST HAS NOT STARTED YET warning, and we can

I have not yet voted on this. For the record I am +1 on the contest
and the page with the following thoughts:
1. Regarding this text: "Your proposal will be published on the Flex
Incubation website here next to the other proposals" We cannot host an
image of the logo submissions on our site without an ICLA on file for
the person submitting the image. We can host a link on our site to
someone's submission on an external site if they have not filed an
ICLA. Obviously, if that submission becomes the winner, the submitter
will need to file an ICLA before their submission is accepted into the
project. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
2. The last lines of the page say: "The authors of the selected Apache
Flex logo(s) will need to donate them to the Apache Flex project
according to the Apache individual contributor license: ICLA.txt Send
to the Apache Flex Mailing List mailing-lists" This reads like we are
suggesting people send an ICLA to the Flex mailing list. That is not
where ICLAs are submitted to. ICLAs go to secretary@apache.org. It
should probably be changed to "The authors of the selected Apache Flex
logo(s) will need to donate them to the Apache Flex project according
to the Apache individual contributor license: ICLA.txt Send the ICLA
to secretary@apache.org".
