The problem can be reproduced in {{DescriptorTest}} by adding the following unit test:

    public void testFromFileNameWithBIGFormat()
    {
        checkFromFilename(new Descriptor(tempDataDir, ksname, cfname, 1, Descriptor.Type.TEMP, SSTableFormat.Type.BIG), false);
    }
