[jira] Created: (TIKA-399) HDF4/5 Tika Parser

HDF4/5 Tika Parser
------------------

                 Key: TIKA-399
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-399
             Project: Tika
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: parser
         Environment: indep. of env.
            Reporter: Chris A. Mattmann
            Assignee: Chris A. Mattmann
             Fix For: 0.8

I'm going to throw up an HDF4/HDF5 basic Tika parser, which should allow us to start doing some interesting science activities with Tika and ensure better integration with science data systems technologies like the efforts going on in the OODT community in the Incubator.

Looking here:

http://www.apache.org/legal/resolved.html

It seems like the netcdf-java MIT license and the HDFgroup BSD license are compatible with ASF 2.0. Jukka, others, would you agree?

Here's some HDF (4/5) APIS and their license:

https://wiki-bsse.ethz.ch/display/JHDF5/JHDF5+%28HDF5+for+Java%29 ASL 2.0 license

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/ MIT license

http://www.hdfgroup.org/hdf-java-html/ BSD "style" license http://www.hdfgroup.org/products/licenses.html

Jukka, others, feedback on these?
