Jsp compilation

Hi,
Can i use an IDE like EditPuls to compile Jsp and
servlets. 
Is there a way to avoid deploying the servlets and
Jsps to see any Runtime errors.

Also, pl. suggest any good editor compatible with J2EE
development.
