Thanks for the help!  I just tried this and the versions are as expected.

If the format file has the value 5, does that mean it's changed?

Note that this will tell you the version of the binaries, but it will  
not tell you the format of your repository.  Unless you've run an  
explicit upgrade, the repository format will not have changed.
