Is it possible to switch back to compiled sitemap ?

In *cocoon.xconf* file I can now read:
*"New implementation of the sitemap. It is interpreted, so load times are
super-fast, and request processing is slightly faster than with the compiled
engine thanks to the HotSpot VM."*

Is there any benchmark showing that this new interpreted implementation of
sitemap is better than the previous one (which was compiled) ?

Is it possible to switch back to a compiled sitemap ?

I don't think so, and even if it is, no one uses that anymore.
