[jira] [Commented] (WHIMSY-281) Analyse irs-disclosures.txt ?

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WHIMSY-281?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16892804#comment-16892804 ]

Sebb commented on WHIMSY-281:
-----------------------------

At present the file is quite difficult to parse.
In particular, the header line for each PMC chair consists of:

V.P., Apache <one or more words of PMC name> <one or more words of chair name> [from date - to date]

Many of the entries have more than one space separating the PMC name from the chair name, but not all do.

In the case of active PMCs, it should be possible to compare names against committee-info.txt, but that won't work for retired PMCs.

Maybe the format needs to be more strictly enforced?

> Might be worth analysing officers/irs-disclosures.txt?
> Whilst the file is private, most of the information in it is in the public domain.
> (e.g. who is/was chair of each PMC)
> The info could be used for:
> 1) checking that the file agrees with other sources such as committee-info.txt
> 2) listing former PMC chair holders in the board subscriber analysis
> Probably there are other uses.
> Initially there could just be a library method to return data from the file.
> Maybe later create a JSON file with the public data in it.
