[jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-13386) Upgrade Avro to 1.8.x or later

PJ Fanning commented on HADOOP-13386:
-------------------------------------

Can this issue be reconsidered? Avro 1.7.7 brings a dependency on jackson1 which is EOL and has a CVE and probably suffers from many extra security issues that have been fixed in jackson 2. Avro 1.9 is first to use jackson 2 but Avro 1.10 is first to use a CVE free version of jackson 2. Avro 1.7.7 also uses a problematic version of commons-compress.

> Upgrade Avro to 1.8.x or later

> Avro 1.8.x makes generated classes serializable which makes them much easier to use with Spark. It would be great to upgrade Avro to 1.8.x
