You need to install an error handler to catch the error messages.
Using one of our sample e.g. DOMCount, I got the following error:
C:\>domcount e:\usertemp\bad.xml
Fatal Error at file e:\usertemp\bad.xml, line 1, char 1
Message: Invalid document structure
Errors occured, no output available
