[jira] Commented: (HBASE-752) HBase 0.2 should be based on Hadoop 0.17.2

Jim Kellerman commented on HBASE-752:
-------------------------------------

I am somewhat torn on this issue. I think the 0.17.2 patches are important, however we don't yet have a timeframe for 0.17.2 release. So because 0.17.1 and 0.17.2 are compatible (from the client's point of view) I'd rather not hold up the release of 0.2.0 for that reason alone.

If there are other issues that would delay the release of 0.2.0, to the point where 0.17.2 becomes available, then we should delay the release of 0.2.0. However since 0.2.0 will run on on any 0.17.x release, if we release before 0.17.2. I think that 0.2.0 will be such a big improvement over 0.1.x, that getting it out sooner rather than later would serve a couple of purposes:
- we will have a release of HBase that runs on 0.17.x before 0.18.x comes out
- people can start using 0.2.0 and finding bugs that will need to go into 0.2.1

> HBase 0.2.0 release should be based on Hadoop 0.17.2 (or -dev it not available when we release 0.2.0) for the following two DFS client issues.
> HADOOP-3760. Fix a bug with HDFS file close() mistakenly introduced
> by HADOOP-3681. (Lohit Vijayarenu via rangadi)
> HADOOP-3681. DFSClient can get into an infinite loop while closing
> a file if there are some errors. (Lohit Vijayarenu via rangadi)
> Should we set it as Blocker?
