That works for me [~humbedooh]. It might take a bit to populate on my humble connection, but hopefully Git compresses things significantly though, and it probably can't be any slower than svn has been for updating the site :)

I can update the bits during the process to use the 'content' subdir for the published content, rather than 'docs' as it does now. I've always thought the 'docs' dir was a bit oddly named anyway.
