Hi Alessandro,

I have no idea what kinds of queries users of the Solr connector may be doing, so I don't think we can include this change on the dev_1x branch for backwards-compatibility reasons.  However, we *can* potentially do this without a checkbox on trunk.  But first, I think I'd want to post to user and dev to see if anyone out there has an objection.
