[jira] [Created] (KUDU-3004) retain a history of PathSetPBs when
updating directories
Andrew Wong created KUDU-3004:
---------------------------------
Summary: retain a history of PathSetPBs when updating directories
Key: KUDU-3004
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KUDU-3004
Project: Kudu
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: fs
Reporter: Andrew Wong
Currently, {{kudu fs update_dirs}} will wipe away the existing PathSetPBs (i.e. those in the {{block_manager_instance}} files) and writes new ones that are representative of whatever the user has input as the new set of data directories. It'd be nice if we could retain a history of the PathSetPBs so we can more easily debug how and why a PathSetPB looks the way it does.
Adar and I chatted about this, about perhaps switching the {{path_set}} field of {{PathInstanceMetadataPB}} to be repeated.
