clustering Roller 4.0 - checklist
Hi, I've got a 2 node Roller 4.0 cluster (on Glassfish v2).
Just wanted to check what needs to be done to make it place nicely.
* turn off search
* have a shared uploads folder
* shared planet cache.dir directory
* arrange for each instance to have a unique tasks.clientId attribute
in roller-custom.properties
* set the <distributable /> element in web.xml (? not sure whether
this is required)
Anything I missed (or shouldn't have done)?

Or try the JBoss Cache. It's clusterable, I read about it somewhere in
the Hibernate docs.

My understanding:
Roller uses memcached to cache generated pages
(i.e. as a drop-in replacement for its file-based page cache, not for
caching database query
results), so it doesn't really matter what persistence layer you have.

I'm glad it was helpful and thanks for the fix, I have updated my post.

Thanks Dave - I've been looking for an excuse to try out memcached, so I did
and it's working very well.
One thing, I got a classnotfound exception following your
instructions. Had to replace
cache.defaultFactory=net.java.roller.tools.cache.memcached.MemcachedLRUCacheFactory
with
cache.defaultFactory=net.java.roller.tools.cache.memcached.MemcachedLRUCacheFactoryImpl
Thanks for the help!

There is a memcached implementation of the Roller cache system at
roller.dev.java.net. Here's a HOWTO that explains how to use it:

Hmm, that's a bit of a gotcha :)
Might explain some weirdness we've been seeing though, thanks for the warning.
Thanks both for the sanity check.

I've never heard of that web.xml element either. Shouldn't be necessary.
You also need some form of cluster safe cache implementation as well
unless you plan to disable all of Roller's caches. Without that you'll
get mismatching data between nodes.

Sounds about right. I'm not sure that web.xml change is necessary, I
don't recall using it myself.
