This is one of the hardest to test areas and since it often happens in less than ideal conditions it's also important to test reconnect under many different (possibly repeating) failure cases. This area is a bit of our soft under-shell, though developers have made many fixes and improvements over the years. This stuff works a lot more often than it used to in master.

I have a few more of those fixes and improvements.
