[VOTE] POI news service

Hi All,

In the interest of keeping us in compliance with the interests of Apache
to monitor the project and sharing the burdens of updating the
newsletter ecumenically between POI members, I've tentatively set up a
POI news service on nagoya. I don't have access to make it publically
accessible, however here's how it works:

You'll go to an html form where you can use basic html tags like <p> or
text (see http://linuxintegrators.com/hl30/postform.jsp for an
example). You'll use a group password which all committers will have
access to.

When you see important POI news happen, you go to the form and post it.

When there is a release...again...the form.

We can also keep a "changes" category where folks can note what changes
they've made... Then we can make much nicer release notes.

Alternatively you can use a tool supporting xmlrpc to post.

POI-interested persons can subscribe to a feed called RSS. Other news
services support RSS.

There are things called aggregators that can aggregate this... One such
one is called Krysalis Kommunist.

The news software I've chosen uses flat text/html files, is pure java,
is lightweight and required 10 minutes to set up.

Any committer can edit any news item as they feel appropriate. Access
to nagoya is required to add a new "category".

Please vote on:

Should we use this for our important news and events as they occur,
releases, etc.?

Thanks,

-Andy

Yep... I usually send out a notice before a release to update it.

It's one of those things. If it's an ongoing task that needs to be
performed it's easy to neglect it. If it's in-your-face at a particular
time it's usually easier to do it and get it over with. I'm always
forgetting to update the blasted thing myself too.

If I see a significant commit without a modification to that file I'll try
to remember to nag people to add the change. I'd like to encourage
everyone to nag me (and others) about it too.

Regards,

Glen

I'm +1 but I suspect people will not update it regularly (can't even get
people to update the change.xml file). What I've been doing is going
through ALL the mail for the month and adding newsworthy items. It's slow
but makes sure I get almost everything.
