Tomcat plugin

I'm trying to install the Tomcat plugin as instructed here :
http://www.codeczar.com/products/maven-tomcat-plugin/download.html

But it looks like the plugin is no longer hosted there as can be seen
from this failure message:

Unfortunately, the remote deployment checkbox for Tomcat 5 is not checked for
Maven 1. But it looks like there's definitely options especially since I
can make ANT calls to your ANT API. I'll look further as time (almost
invariably never) permits, but the quick-and-dirty eludes me for now.

Re: Tomcat plugin

http://cargo.codehaus.org/

Mission
Cargo is a thin wrapper around existing containers (e.g. J2EE
containers). It provides different APIs to easily manipulate
containers.

Cargo provides the following APIs:
A Java API to start/stop/configure Java Containers and deploy modules
into them. We also offer Ant tasks, Maven 1, Maven 2, Intellij IDEA
and Netbeans plugins.
A Java API to parse/create/merge J2EE Modules
Check the utilisation page to understand what you can use Cargo for.

So yes, it sounds like you can use Cargo to log into Tomcat, undeploy
and redeploy your builds. Now you just need to figure out the
specifics of the configuration.

Re: Tomcat plugin

I'm sorry...I'm not getting the cargo plugin. Maybe I'm not being clear.
I'm looking for a plugin that will remotely log into my tomcat instance,
undeploy the old WAR, and redeploy the resulting WAR from my maven build.
Does cargo support that scenario? This was why I was using the
maven-tomcat-plugin (which, btw, I'm seeking help from codeczar).

There seems to be only one goal of any use "cargo:start" but then it blocks
after that. Maybe this is not the appropriate plugin? Please advise
otherwise.

Thanks,
Lou

LOL...did you notice how I tried to take my message back? At any rate, I
have the jar now in $MAVEN_HOME/plugins. I'm assuming that suffices the
"install" requirement and now I can start adding the properties and goals to
my code?

Yes, that's what I said but I also said:

"As I mentionned you should normally not need to define any remote repo as
cargo artifacts are available on ibiblio. However I've noticed that the
cargo 0.8 plugin wasn't there... :-(

I'm working on adding it. For now you can grab it here

rgo-maven-plugin-0.8.jar and install it manually by dropping it in your

Vincent did say the plugin was not there in ibiblio and that you can
grab it ,by downloading straight from
http://cargo.codehaus.org/dist2/org/codehaus/cargo/cargo-maven-plugin/0.8/ca
rgo-maven-plugin-0.8.jar

You can then install it by copying it to your $MAVEN_HOME/plugin directory

This is not the correct location. Actually cargo artifacts are available on
ibiblio so you don't even need to add a new remote repo.

> 2)executed maven plugin:download  -DgroupId=cargo

The latest released version is 0.8. 0.9 is still in development but you can
get it from our CI build:
http://ci.codehaus.org/beetlejuice/viewBuildArtifacts.action?buildNumber=411
&projectName=Cargo

The http://cargo.codehaus.org/dist2-snapshot repo is a m2 snapshot repo so
you'll find only snapshots there. The release repo is on
http://cargo.codehaus.org/dist2 and you should be able to get version 0.8
there.

As I mentionned you should normally not need to define any remote repo as
cargo artifacts are available on ibiblio. However I've noticed that the
cargo 0.8 plugin wasn't there... :-(

I'm working on adding it. For now you can grab it here

rgo-maven-plugin-0.8.jar and install it manually by dropping it in your
MAVEN_HOME/plugins directory.

Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks

Ok I tried getting the maven 1 plugin as follows :
1)Edited my build.properties file and added
http://cargo.codehaus.org/maven in my maven.repo.remote property

2)executed maven plugin:download  -DgroupId=cargo
-DartifactId=cargo-maven-plugin  -Dversion=0.9

and got the error message :

BUILD FAILED

Unable to find plug-in

I know that my repo is incorrect.What is the correct name for the
repo.I also tried
http://cargo.codehaus.org/dist2-snapshot with version set to 0.8 and
still failed to get the plugin.

This plugin wasn't publish by the maven team.
You'll have a better help if you directly contact its team.

An alternative is to use cargo

Re: Tomcat plugin

Posted by lsacco <oc...@gmail.com>.
I’m attempting to use your plug-in for deploying to Tomcat. It says it’s
successful but I don’t see the application deployed in any way. Can you
advise?

My pertinent information:

Tomcat 5.0.28 (note that I’m not trying to precompile JSP so this should be
ok, no?)
Maven 1.0.2
plugin version 1.2.1

Project.properties:
maven.tomcat.manager.url=http://localhost:8080/manager
maven.tomcat.username=admin
maven.tomcat.password=admin
maven.tomcat.jsp.precompile=false

maven.xml:
            <goal name="deploy"
                        description="Deploy everything to the tomcat
server">

                        <j:forEach items="${web_projects}" var="web_project"
                                    indexVar="projectNumber">
                                    <echo>deploy</echo>
                                    <m:reactor basedir="${basedir}/.."

includes="${web_project}/project.xml" postProcessing="true"
                                                ignoreFailures="true"
goals="tomcat:deploy" />
                        </j:forEach>
            </goal>

http://www.codeczar.com/products/maven-tomcat-plugin/download.html says:

maven -DartifactId=maven-tomcat-plugin -DgroupId=codeczar-tomcat
-Dversion=1.2.1 plugin:download

Which does indeed exist:
http://www.codeczar.com/maven/codeczar-tomcat/plugins/maven-tomcat-plugin-1.2.1.jar

Looks like your groupId is wrong.

It was renamed:

And read this too for help getting it running:
