How to pass Parameters!!

Hi All,
Going thru some of the recent discussions on the group, I found out that we
can pass parameters to the XSLT documents.Is that only possible while
calling the XSLT from JSP\Servlet or is it possible while calling from a
Normal java application.If yes!! then how can I do the same with Xalan?
