is there any value behind build failed notifications?

We are constantly getting build failed notifications on the commits
list. Most of the time the reason is that maven is not able to
download an artifact. This is something which I very very rarely see
when i personally build using maven.

Is there a specific reason that we are getting these notifications?
Why do we need to be notified. Since I joined this project pretty
late, I am sure I must be missing something which would've been
discussed earlier. Can anybody throw some light on this please?

Thanx David.

Yep. I have already taken care of that by grepping for "Missing:" Like
I said, there is a very remote possibility that a real case might also
slip through along with all the spurious cases. But we can live with
that.

For now, I'm going to turn off build notifications for errors due to
missing artifacts. We may miss the notification in a real case. But
considering how frequent the spurious cases are, the possibility of a
real case is remote.

Re: is there any value behind build failed notifications?

Karan,

I have not had the need to set up a maven proxy. I have used the same
settings to do Geronimo builds and they don't seem to have the same
problem.

I have considered the possibility that openejb may be downloading from
a certain problematic repo that Geronimo does not use. However, I
believe the builds have failed for different repos at different times.
So I have had to disregard that possibility. Maybe I need to revisit
all the failed builds and analyze the failed scenarios.

Yes. These builds do run from behind a firewall.

Prasad

Prasad,

Just curious, have you setup a maven proxy? Could this be a firewall
issue? I have not analyzed it, but are the downloads failing only from
one url, or are they failing from different urls?

I have wondered too why only the openejb builds fail most of the times
with the missing dependency exceptions. Geronimo and tck has no such
problems.

The build function in the script runs twice already to account for this.

Hey Prasad, do you mind if we get a copy of the script so we could
