[Axis 2] Data transfer thru Axis 2.0

Hello,
           I want to develop a webservice using Axis 1.0 where the client and the service does not need to agree on the number or the type of paramaters send as input/output. Is it possible thru Axis 1.0? I was wondering since Axis is based on JAX-RPC this might not be possible. Do I have to switch to Axis 2.0 in order for me to transfer data in such a way that the client and the service are not tightly coupled with each other in regards to parameter passing?
