   Sorry for the late reply. In 1.10x, if I remember correctly, I found that changing the backend would also change how airflow got a variable from the meta store. 
   
   Please correct me if I'm wrong. In the codebase, I saw it went to vault directly to fetch the variable instead of looking for it from our Postgres. That’s why I draw the diagram above.
   
   Btw, sorry about pending the issue. My request for open source is still waiting for review in my workplace. I will check again today.
