Cannot read or send mail using Outlook

I cannot read or send messages using Outlook 2000 (Not Outlook express, I am
not using it).

However I am able to both read and send messages using Eudora,
and also I wrote a java application using the Mail API and was able to both
read and send email.

So it looks like my Jame configuration is correct. But what is wrong with my
Outlook setup ?

Can anybody shed some light.

Hi Kenny,

When sending mail it pops up for username password every couple of seconds
while trying to connect, and when I press cancel it says "SMTP server
responded with an error". Error Number 0x800ccc60

When sending mail it says "A timeout occured while communicating with the
server". Error Number 0x800ccc19

I used the DEBUG option for both smtp and pop3 server logs, but it doesn;t
show any activity for operation from Outlook.

Everything works fine with Eudora and a Java App using Java Mail.

I am connecting to it via Internet. (but the James server is in my local
machine,
I have diabled the local host in the server section, and specified my host
name
in the server section and it detects my IP properly, show this info in the
james log)

Rajith

Hi Rajith,

What errors messages are you getting?
Are you using SMTP-AUTH or anything like that?
Where is James located? On your local network? or are you connecting to
it via the Internet?

Hi Noel,

Thanks a lot, I will try the packet sniffer and see.

You should not have to do anything special. I created an account for your
server, and used it to send e-mail to you from Outlook.

I am suspecting something in your Windows client environment, since I can
use your James server from here via Outlook. Again, Kenny and I have both
suggested that you try a packet sniffer.

Here are two different packet sniffers, yes both named NGS Sniffer from two
companies with almost the same name. Either one should do:

  http://www.ngsec.com/ngresearch/ngtools/
  http://www.nextgenss.com/software/ngssniff.html

Alternatively, you could use a proxy, such as the TCP Tunnel/Monitor that
comes with Apache SOAP and Axis.
