The new MR API is already supported, so I think we can close this. However, there are some problems in later versions (post 21) of Hadoop. See MRUNIT-31.

During the release of 0.8.1 I confirmed that the release artifacts support testing with Hadoop 1.0 (MR1) and 0.23 (MR2):
