Urgent: Help needed to check VC3 Update Center
Hi team,
I again turn to you with an urgent request for help. I have
yesterday updated forwarding of HTTP requests for updates.xml.gz module
catalog from
incubator/netbeans/incubating-netbeans-java/incubating-9.0-rc1/nbms/$1
to
incubator/netbeans/incubating-netbeans-java/incubating-9.0-vc3/nbms/$1
but in my country it does not work, most probably because the content
has not yet been synchronized across all the mirrors.
Can someone else please try accessing
https://netbeans.apache.org/nb/updates/9.0/updates.xml.gz in your
country and reply back with your findings?
Without functioning Update Center I am certain that NetCAT 9.0
should reject releasing 9.0 version.

OK, so until we get there I have reverted the UC to point to the RC1
bits to avoid impression that the Update Center is broken.
After the 9.0 VC3 becomes live I will update the redirection to the
final mirror balancer.

Simply by default, the Apache mirrors are applicable to releases AFAIK. We
haven’t released 9.0-vc3, i.e., we need to complete the PPMC vote, then
start and complete the IPMC vote, and then do the release, at which point
the mirrors will be available.
However, in this case, what we’d like to do is test whether the mirrors
will work for our purposes related to update centers.
Either we can ask at infra.chat whether as an exception they can release
our update center solution to the mirrors for testing purposes or we need
to wait for the actual release to see whether the update center solution
works.
I would not be surprised if the only approach will be to wait until the
release to be able to try our solution since that’s when we’ll have mirrors.

BTW, I still cannot get Netbeans (VC3 now) to connect to the update or
plugins urls, even though I can download the catalogs in a browser using
the same proxy configuration (squid) that is set in Netbeans. I even
copied specific urls from inside the catalogs so I could download the 3
nbjavac nbms with the browser and installed them manually.
I checked out the Netbeans sources from git and had a look around to see
if I could find some clue to this issue, but it was a bit over my head
since this is the first time I have actually looked at the Netbeans
source. I wasn't even sure exactly where to look... :D

I'm a bit late responding but:
- The download of updates.xml.gz
<https://netbeans.apache.org/nb/updates/9.0/updates.xml.gz> worked fine
for me on Windows 10 in the USA (size = 83,862 bytes).
- Unzipping it also worked fine. The content was a single XML file named
*updates.xml* (size=789,965 bytes).
