Been there, done that. The trouble with townhouses is that you pay  a chunk of
money to maintain things, but you often have minimal say in who, how or what
gets maintained. I've lived in townhouses where they had by-laws about how
high the flowers could be around the light post in your section of the yard!
(granted, I was renting at the time, but still...)

Also, I was told by real-estate types that townhouses lose value first and gain
value last. But in the New England housing market right now, I don't think it
matters
in the slightest. Its a seller's market, I'm told.
