directory in and out again

RE: mod_rewrite - debuging MapType: prgIf i create a virtual host where the links in the directory are based on backing out of the directory
all links that are one step out are inaccessible or in the case of graphics wont show, is there a 
way to fix this before i rewrite the .html 

i.e.  ../grafik/fish.gif

serverroot /htdocs

.dk site goes to /htdocs
.com site goes to /htdocs/english

if i go to .com the pages cannot see the graphics that are storred in /htdocs/grafik
and the link ../index.html wont work from the virtual host to take me back to the .dk version

is there a way around this ... without breaking any security rules.
