more moderators?
Hi All,
I am writing to solicit additional moderators for cayenne-commits. I
let a couple of messages slip last week while I was at J1 and that
clued us into the fact that I'm the only moderator.
First sorry for missing the messages and letting them drop! Lack of
sleep can cause that :-)
Second anyone like to help out with the moderation.
TTFN,
Bill Dudney

Actually I just realized - there is nothing wrong with moderation of
commits list and exactly for the reason that I mentioned - aside from
spam there is only a fixed number of posters.
Bill, you probably know that already, but I just discovered when
migrating Jira that you can do "Reply All" to a moderation email, and
this will send the reply to an address like "*-allow-*", permanently
allowing a given "From:" address to post to the list without
subscribing it. So each committer has to be moderated only once.
Having said that, I volunteer to be a second moderator.

I kind of started to appreciate how moderation works on dev and user
lists (I guess my spam filters finally caught up). Still commits list
should only accept messages from committer's addresses. We can simply
put all committer id@apache.org addresses in "allow" dir. Why do we
need moderation at all?

Bah. I knew it seemed too easy.
Thanks for the clarification.

Kevin,
This was about ASF mentors of our incubation, not the SoC. So it
means Jean, Jim, Brian and Bill, not us.

The only mentors are Andrus and me. Andrus already said he'd be a
moderator. I'm consenting as well.
No need to wait ;-)

Jean and myself were just added as moderators. Brett Porter, who did
the setup, suggested to limit it to just the two of us (plus Bill of
course), as we explicitly confirmed our desire to be there. Which is
ok IMO, as only a limited number of people have commit rights, and
adding each one permanently to the "allow" list is a one-time task.

Bill,
Looks like you are still the only moderator on commits list. I can
send a request to infra to make myself and all mentors moderators on
this list. Just checking that everybody is still ok with this idea :-)

I like that idea,
if there are no objections (i.e. lazy consensus in 24 hrs?) I'll get
the process started.

in case this isn't common knowledge, the committers guide at
http://www.apache.org/dev/new-committers-guide.html#private lists the
URL for the private committers svn repo. The docs/resources.txt file in
that repo lists how a committer can determine who the moderators for a
list are. --Can be useful to know.
