[jira] Commented: (MNG-728) Consider using java.net.useSystemProxies

Steve Loughran commented on MNG-728:
------------------------------------

Kohsuke,

Based on the Ant 1.7 beta tests,
1. This setting appears to do nothing on Linux
2. It is not needed on mac
3. It does something on windows, but we do not know what.

Regarding (3), build files that used to work fail with <sql> connections using Oracle's JDBC driver hanging.

While automatic synchronization between jvm proxy settings and the OS would be a good thing, I am not convinced what is in 1.5.0x is a workable solution. Instead it creates a different set of support calls.

Perhaps a better solution would be a commons-proxy-setup project that did proxy configuration properly.

> Consider using the java.net.useSystemProxies property so that Maven can work with a proxy without requring any user intervention.
