[jira] [Commented] (KAFKA-1485) Upgrade to Zookeeper 3.4.x

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-1485?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14086549#comment-14086549 ]

Joe Stein commented on KAFKA-1485:
----------------------------------

[~gwenshap] why would we go with 3.4.5 and not 3.4.6 since that is what Apache Zookeeper http://zookeeper.apache.org/ says is stable/current? Also according to [~toddpalino] that is what LinkedIn is moving to for 0.8.2 testing and production (at least staging though my assumption was the next step was to prod with Zk3.4.6 if 0.8.2 made it through???). I think if LinkedIn is moving to 3.4.6 and running that in production for 0.8.2 then that is where the code should move too also.

I am hoping also this upgrade won't affect Zk 3.3.X users or will they have to upgrade Zk also when they upgrade to 0.8.2? If so they may not expect such a large change for a minor bump we should consider that if so.. if not then, nm :)

> I can't run projects alongside Kafka that use zookeeper 3.4 jars. 3.4 has been out for 2.5 years and seems to be ready for adoption.
> In particular Apache Storm will upgrade to Zookeeper 3.4.x in their next 0.9.2 release. I can't run both versions in my tests at the same time.
> The only compile problem I saw was in EmbeddedZookeeper.scala
