now they are up; karaf trunk does not build w/o them.

jansi is at central. I would remove the repo from the root pom (or comment it out). It would only be needed if you need a snapshot version of jansi. However, with it there, it would be consulted for all snapshot deps. If it goes down and you have a snapshot dep, you're screwed. (or use -o for offline, but you would need to hope you already have some version of the snapshot)

Was there a specific resource that made the snapshot build fail, or
just not being able to access the repo enough to stop the build. In
the later case it shouldn't have stopped building, in the former I
wonder if said artifacts can be replicated on central as Jansi has
been.

I've been able to build karaf 2.2.x, 2.3.x, and 3.0.x - perhaps I'm
just picking up dependencies from my m2. I'll wipe out my m2 repo and
try again.
IIRC the only resource that we're picking up from a fuse repo is jansi.
