Most probably I will file some more jiras around GPU support if I encounter rooms for improvement like this, but only if GPU support v1 won't get deprecated soon.
 To decide the extent of my contribution, I'm curious about what is the plan with GPU support v2 (YARN-8820) / the new pluggable device plugin framework (YARN-8851)
 [~sunilg], [~leftnoteasy]: Could you please give me a rough timeline for those? 
 Is it your intention to "deprecate" the code added soon with YARN-6223 or your plan is to keep GPU support v1 in place for an extended period of time?
