[C2]: Caching problems - solved?
Hi,
using the latest cvs (including my last patch for the attribute
handling of cached pages) I can't reproduce any problems
with the caching.
The following from various users reported problems are not
reproducable on my system: win2000, sun jdk 1.3.02, tomcat 3.2.1:
1. The welcome page is served repeatedly correct
2. The first access to hello.pdf shows the pdf example
3. following requests to hello.pdf are also handled correctly
4. all other examples on the left hand side of the welcome page
work, except the slides demo (I will look into it).
So here is my question:
Is someone else still having problems with the latest cvs
on those examples?

Ok, I have a good and a bad news!
Starting with the bad one:
Sorry, I didn't use the IE but a small test programm which directly
saved the output from the request. So I really compared the first (not
cached) with the second one (cached). And they were the same!!
And now the good one:
The difference between your and my installation must be the
SAXConnector! I have turned on the NullSAXConnector and you used
the default SAXConnector (the CXInlucdeSAXConnector). Right?
So the problem is NOT the caching but the SAXConnector.

I have tested this and the PDF problem is the same. If you look at the
contents of the PDFfile produced on the first hit (ie not cached) all the
objects are duplicated, when it is refreshed they are correct. Attached is a
copy of hello.pdf as a text document.
The fact you do not see this with IE and the Acrobat Plugin is that they do
two requests for every page PDF opened, so the second one is OK and
displays.
To see this problem do not view the pdf but save it and try to open it.

bash$ rm -rf xml-cocoon2
bash$ cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@xml.apache.org:/home/cvspublic checkout
xml-cocoon2
bash$ cd xml-cocoon2
bash$ chmod a+x build.sh
bash$ ./build.sh -Dinclude.webapp.libs=yes webapp
bash$ cd ../jakarta-tomcat-4.0-b3
bash$ rm -rf ./work/localhost
bash$ rm -rf ./webapps/cocoon
bash$ cp ../xml-cocoon2/build/cocoon/cocoon.war ./webapps
bash$ ./bin/catalina.sh run
Using either OmniWeb 4.0 (release) or IE 5.5 (beta)...
T=0s -> connect to http://stargate.uwaterloo.ca:8080/cocoon
-> welcome page displays correctly
T=1s -> choose to reload
-> welcome page displays incorrectly
-> all content after the version number is garbled
Something still seems to be messed up I'm afraid.

P.S. How come build.bat is executable "out of the box", but not build.sh?
