how to install some jars on local box to local repository

Hi All The Mavens,
I'm just testing cactus sample, some jar files I put them in the project.xml 
dependency.
but when I run the maven goals, the dependended jar download were failed.
I have those jar files on my local box, how can I install it into my local 
repository so maven can use them.
