I could replicate the bug with below configuration,

Configuration:

Product: Open Office
Date of Test: 10/01/2014
Version: Open Office Version: 4.1.1 AOO411m6, Build ID 9775 and Open Office
Version: 4.1.0 AOO410m18, Build ID 9764 and Open Office Version: 4.0.1 AOO401m5
| Build ID 9714
Platform: Windows 7 Home Premium – 64 bit & 32 bit
Processor: Intel core i7 @2.00GHZ
RAM Memory: 6 GB

Description:
The original report states that the writer is slow when large images are
inserted in the document. The reporter says that the response of open office
writer 4.1.1 is slow when scrolling through the pages but works well in version
4.0.1.
I tried replicating the bug by creating a new 50 page document with large size
images (more than 700KB) on both Version of open office 4.1.1 and 4.0.1 and
initially I created a document as said by the reporter with 5 column view and
with half a dozen images of 700 KB (Approx.) and I didn’t find much difference
then I increased the image size gradually from 2 MB to 4 MB and then I could
see that the open office was slow with version 4.1.1 but it was good with
4.0.1.

Steps I followed in replicating the bug:
Step1: Create a new document (.odt) with open office version 4.1.1 and insert
some paragraph and for every five page insert at least one image (.jpg) of size
(700KB) approx. With five column view as said in the original report.
Step 2: make sure the document is long with more than 50 pages and save and
close it (see document1.odt)
Step3: Open the same document with version 4.1.1 and try scrolling down through
the pages.
Step 4: Open the same document with version 4.0.1 and try scrolling down
through the pages.
Step 5: I found that there was not much trouble with 700KB pictures in the
document.
Step 6: Create another document similar to that and now insert images with more
than 1 MB (I used 2-4MB) and save the document. (Open office by default reduces
the picture size, right click on the image and select original size) see
document2.odt
Step7: Open the same document with version 4.1.1 and try scrolling down through
the pages.
Step 8: Open the same document with version 4.0.1 and try scrolling down
through the pages.
Step 9: I could find trouble in scrolling down the pages when I opened using
version 4.1.1 but it was easy with version 4.0.1. With Version 4.1.1, the
writer was slow when scrolling down, loading of images took some time and
sometimes it hangs for few seconds and comes back live.

Follow-up Test:
I tried same steps on (Windows 32 bit and windows 64 bit) machines and I could
replicate the errors on both the system. There is another version of open
office between 4.0.1 and 4.1.1 which is 4.1.0. I could replicate the same issue
with version 4.1.0(Released 2014-04-29) which came after 4.0.1(Released
2013-10-01).

Speculation:
Inserting image with huge size and opening and scrolling down with Open office
version 4.0.1 was easy but the writer was slow with version 4.1.0 and 4.1.1
from which I speculate that some added features to version 4.1.0 makes the
writer to respond slowly. Also I found a similar bug 125490 which talks about
slow response of writer 4.1.1 with larger images.
